Thrifty Forager

Thrifty Forager came about for a mix of reasons… years of searching the internet for ‘where can i find sloes in Sussex’ and watching a programme on apples that opened our eyes to what was around us and seeing that there are apple trees EVERYWHERE! then thinking why on earth are we all buying them in the supermarket?!

Same with blackberries – they grow all over the place, can be picked for free and yet we pay £3 in the shops for a small punnet!

With friends and family having similar ‘where can i find sloes’ in Leeds and Nottingham it makes sense to share where we find things and we can get back to the not so long ago norm of thrifty foraging for our own food!

So this is what it comes to;

- a map where you can search your local area for apples, nuts, berries etc and also let us know where you find your own so we can place it on the Thrifty Forager map for others to enjoy;

- and a website full of recipes, tips and crafts to do with your bounty when you’ve found it!
